Tips for Planning a Funeral or Memorial Service

3/9/2026

Picture
Planning a funeral or memorial service is one of the most emotionally challenging tasks a person can face. It’s a time of grief, reflection, and remembrance—and also a time when logistics and decisions can feel overwhelming.
At Sunny Days Events, we’ve helped families across Southeast Alaska create meaningful, respectful gatherings that honor their loved ones with care and dignity. Whether you're planning a traditional service or a personalized celebration of life, here are some thoughtful tips to guide you through the process.

🧭 Start With the Purpose
Every memorial is different. Some are quiet and intimate, others are joyful and communal. Ask yourself:
  • What would your loved one have wanted?
  • What tone feels right—formal, spiritual, casual, celebratory?
  • Who needs to be there, and what do they need from the experience?

We help you shape the event around your values and your loved one’s legacy.

📍 Choose a Meaningful Location
Memorials can be held in churches, community halls, private homes, outdoor spaces, or even waterfront venues. Consider:
  • Accessibility for guests
  • Weather and terrain (especially in Southeast Alaska)
  • Space for seating, food, and quiet reflection
At Sunny Days Events, we offer tents, chairs, and layout support for both indoor and outdoor services—designed to keep guests comfortable and the atmosphere respectful.

📝 Plan the Flow of the Service
A clear timeline helps guests feel grounded and supported. Typical elements include:
  • Welcome or opening remarks
  • Readings, prayers, or poems
  • Eulogies or shared memories
  • Music or performances
  • Closing words or symbolic gestures (like candle lighting or flower offerings)
We help you coordinate speakers, manage transitions, and ensure everything flows smoothly.

🌸 Personalize the Details
Small touches can make a big impact:
  • Display photos, keepsakes, or favorite items
  • Create a memory table or guestbook
  • Serve favorite foods or drinks
  • Include cultural or spiritual traditions
  • Offer printed programs or tribute cards

These details help guests connect—and help you celebrate a life well lived.

🛠️ Lean on Support
You don’t have to do it all alone. We offer:
  • Setup and breakdown of rentals
  • Coordination with florists, caterers, and musicians
  • Quiet, respectful on-site support
  • Guidance on layout, flow, and guest comfort
Our goal is to ease the burden so you can focus on honoring your loved one.

💬 Final Thought
Planning a funeral or memorial service is never easy—but it can be healing. With thoughtful choices, gentle support, and a space that feels safe and sacred, you can create a gathering that brings comfort, connection, and peace.
At Sunny Days Events, we’re honored to walk alongside families during these moments. We bring experience, empathy, and care to every detail—because every life deserves to be remembered with love.

Why Local Vendors Make All the DifferencE

3/2/2026

Picture
When planning an event in Southeast Alaska—whether it’s a wedding, fundraiser, corporate retreat, or elopement—your vendor choices matter. And while it might be tempting to bring in services from outside the region, working with local vendors offers benefits that go far beyond convenience.
At Sunny Days Events, we’ve spent over 15 years building relationships with Juneau’s best florists, caterers, musicians, photographers, and more. Here’s why choosing local makes all the difference.

🌿 1. They Know the Land, the Weather, and the Logistics
Southeast Alaska is stunning—but it’s also remote, rugged, and unpredictable. Local vendors understand:
  • How to navigate ferry schedules, mountain terrain, and sudden weather shifts
  • What gear works best for wind, rain, and uneven ground
  • How to adapt quickly when plans change

Local experience means fewer surprises—and smoother execution.

💬 2. Communication Is Easier and More Reliable
Local vendors are in your time zone, speak your language (literally and culturally), and are available for site visits, walkthroughs, and last-minute adjustments. They’re not coordinating from afar—they’re right here with you.

That means faster responses, clearer expectations, and better collaboration.

🌱 3. It’s Better for the Environment
Choosing local reduces transportation emissions and packaging waste. Whether it’s flowers grown nearby or food sourced from regional farms, local vendors help you host a more sustainable event.

Bonus: We can even coordinate with Juneau Composts to manage organic waste responsibly—turning leftovers into soil instead of landfill.

💼 4. It Supports the Community You’re Celebrating In
Every dollar spent with a local vendor stays in the community—supporting jobs, families, and small businesses. It’s a way to give back to the place that’s hosting your celebration.

Your event becomes part of something bigger: a thriving local economy.

🎨 5. They Bring Authenticity and Heart
Local vendors offer products and services that reflect the spirit of Southeast Alaska. From native florals and regional cuisine to storytelling musicians and artists, they infuse your event with a sense of place.

It’s not just beautiful—it’s meaningful.

💬 Final Thought
Local vendors aren’t just convenient—they’re essential. They bring knowledge, flexibility, and soul to your event, helping you create something that’s not only successful, but deeply connected to the land and community around you.
At Sunny Days Events, we’re proud to work with Juneau’s finest. We know who shows up, who delivers, and who brings the magic—because we’ve seen it firsthand.

Glacier Gardens: A Gorgeous Venue with a Tight Timeline

2/23/2026

Picture
Glacier Gardens is one of Southeast Alaska’s most stunning event spaces. With its lush rainforest setting, dramatic floral displays, and elevated walkways, it’s a dream backdrop for elopements and intimate receptions. At Sunny Days Events, we’ve supported several events at this venue over the years—including one this season—and while it’s not our favorite logistically, it’s absolutely worth the effort when planned well.
Here’s what you need to know before booking Glacier Gardens for your celebration.

🌿 Why We Love It
Let’s start with the good stuff—because there’s plenty of it:
  • Breathtaking scenery: Towering trees, vibrant flowers, and a rainforest vibe that feels magical
  • Perfect for small gatherings: Elopements, micro-weddings, and intimate receptions shine here
  • Unique photo ops: From the upside-down trees to the elevated platforms, it’s a photographer’s dream

If you want a venue that feels like a fairytale forest, Glacier Gardens delivers.

⏳ The Catch: A Tight Timeline
Glacier Gardens operates on a strict event window. That means:
  • Limited time for setup, celebration, and teardown
  • Vendors must work quickly and efficiently
  • There’s little room for delays or last-minute changes

For our recent event, we provided rentals and setup only—and even that required careful coordination.

🚪 One Loading Door = Vendor Choreography
There’s only one loading door for all vendors, which means arrival order is critical. Here’s what we’ve learned:
  • Schedule vendor arrivals carefully to avoid bottlenecks
  • The caterer should arrive last—once they’re in place, they prefer not to move
  • Communicate clearly with all vendors about timing and access

A well-timed vendor schedule is the key to a smooth experience at this venue.

🧭 Our Role: Rentals & Setup
For this season’s event, we provided:
  • Tables, chairs, and essential decor
  • On-site setup within the venue’s time constraints
  • Coordination with other vendors to ensure smooth transitions

We didn’t manage the event—but we made sure our part was seamless, fast, and respectful of the space.

💬 Final Thought
Glacier Gardens is a gem—but it requires thoughtful planning and tight coordination. If you’re dreaming of a rainforest celebration, this venue can absolutely deliver—just make sure your team is ready to move quickly and work together.
At Sunny Days Events, we’re happy to support your Glacier Gardens event with rentals, setup, and insider tips to help everything run smoothly.
Planning a small celebration in Southeast Alaska?
Let us help you make it beautiful, efficient, and totally you.

Because we love many Sunny Days and many Events—even the ones with one loading door and a whole lot of flowers.

How to Decorate for a Winter Wedding in Juneau

2/16/2026

Picture
Winter in Juneau is quiet, moody, and breathtaking. Snow-dusted trees, misty mountains, and dramatic skies create a naturally romantic backdrop for couples who love the idea of a cozy, intimate celebration. But decorating for a winter wedding here takes a little strategy—and a lot of heart.
At Sunny Days Events, we help couples embrace the season with warmth, style, and smart planning. And while we love a good tent in summer, we do not recommend tented events in winter—it’s simply too cold to be comfortable, and the weather is far too unpredictable.
Here’s how we suggest decorating for a winter wedding in Southeast Alaska—without relying on outdoor structures.

🕯️ Lean Into the Season’s Mood
Winter in Juneau isn’t about bright colors—it’s about depth, texture, and glow. We love palettes that reflect the landscape:
  • Ice blue, charcoal, and white for a crisp, modern feel
  • Deep burgundy, forest green, and gold for warmth and richness
  • Neutral tones like taupe, ivory, and slate for timeless elegance

Let the natural surroundings guide your color choices—they’ll look stunning in photos and feel grounded in place.

💡 Lighting That Warms, Not Just Illuminates
In winter, lighting isn’t just functional—it’s emotional. With shorter daylight hours and overcast skies, thoughtful lighting makes all the difference:
  • Bistro string lights for ambiance
  • Candles (real or LED) for warmth and romance
  • Accent lighting to highlight signage, florals, or focal points

We design lighting plans that enhance your theme and keep guests cozy.

🍽️ Decor That’s Practical and Cozy
Winter weddings call for comfort and simplicity:
  • Use full place settings with warm-toned dishware and catering supplies
  • Add texture with blankets, faux fur accents, or natural greenery
  • Choose decor that’s easy to set up indoors and feels inviting

Our inventory includes banquet tables, premium chairs, and all the essentials to create a warm, welcoming space.

🧭 Choose the Right Venue
Since tents are off the table in winter, we help clients find indoor venues that offer:
  • Reliable heating
  • Flexible layouts for ceremony and reception
  • Beautiful backdrops that don’t need heavy styling

We know which local spaces work best for winter weddings—and how to make them shine.

💬 Final Thought
A winter wedding in Juneau is a chance to embrace the season’s quiet magic. With thoughtful decor, warm lighting, and intentional styling, your celebration can feel intimate, elegant, and unforgettable—without battling the elements.
At Sunny Days Events, we help couples decorate with purpose—creating spaces that reflect the season, the setting, and the love at the center of it all.

How We Customize Every Event: No Cookie-Cutter Packages Here

2/2/2026

Picture
At Sunny Days Events & Rentals, we believe your event should feel like you—not like a template pulled from a catalog. Whether you're planning a wedding, elopement, fundraiser, or memorial, we start with a blank canvas and build something that reflects your story, your style, and your priorities.
In a world full of generic packages and rigid timelines, we do things differently. Here’s how.

🧭 We Start With Listening
Before we talk tents or timelines, we ask questions like:
  • What does this event mean to you?
  • What kind of atmosphere do you want to create?
  • What are your non-negotiables—and what can be flexible?
We don’t assume anything. We listen, we learn, and we build from there.

🛠️ Every Package Is Built Around You
We don’t offer pre-set packages with fixed prices and limited options. Instead, we tailor each quote based on:
  • Guest count
  • Venue location
  • Weather contingencies
  • Rental needs
  • Design preferences
  • Budget goals
Whether you need full-service planning or just a few rentals, we scale up or down to fit your vision.

🌧️ We Plan for Southeast Alaska’s Realities
Juneau’s weather is unpredictable, and not every event planner accounts for that. We do. Our tents are commercial-grade, our timelines include backup plans, and our team is trained to adapt on the fly.
No cookie-cutter package can handle a sudden windstorm or ferry delay—but we can.

🎉 We Celebrate All Kinds of Events
From intimate elopements to large fundraisers, we’ve planned it all. And we never treat one event like another. A baby shower in a backyard gets just as much care as a corporate retreat at a waterfront venue.
Your event is unique. Our approach reflects that.

💬 Final Thought
You’re not just booking a service—you’re creating a moment. And moments deserve more than a formula. At Sunny Days Events & Rentals, we customize every detail so your event feels personal, polished, and unforgettable.
Let’s build something beautiful—together.

How to Handle Family Drama During Wedding Planning

1/26/2026

Picture
Weddings are joyful, emotional, and deeply personal—but they can also stir up tension. From guest list disagreements to clashing opinions on traditions, family drama is one of the most common stressors couples face during planning.
At Sunny Days Events, we’ve seen it all—and we’ve helped couples navigate it with grace, clarity, and confidence. Here’s how to keep the peace and protect your joy while planning your big day.

🧭 Start With Clear Boundaries
Before you dive into decisions, sit down as a couple and define your non-negotiables. What matters most to you? What are you willing to compromise on?
Once you’re aligned, communicate those boundaries clearly to family members. Whether it’s limiting the guest list, choosing your own ceremony style, or skipping certain traditions, clarity upfront prevents confusion later.

Your wedding should reflect your values—not someone else’s expectations.

💬 Listen, But Don’t Absorb
Family members may have strong opinions—and that’s okay. Listen respectfully, but don’t feel obligated to agree or adjust your plans. Acknowledge their feelings without absorbing their stress.
Try phrases like:
  • “We appreciate your input, but we’ve decided to go a different direction.”
  • “That’s a great idea—we’ll think about how it fits into our vision.”
  • “Thanks for sharing. We’re trying to keep things simple and meaningful for us.”

🧘‍♀️ Create Space for Calm
If tensions rise, take a break. Step away from the conversation, go for a walk, or revisit the topic later. Planning a wedding is emotional—give yourself permission to pause and reset.
At Sunny Days Events, we often act as a buffer. We can help mediate vendor decisions, layout changes, and timeline adjustments so you don’t have to play referee.

📝 Put It in Writing
For big decisions—like who’s invited, who’s speaking, or who’s paying for what—put it in writing. This avoids misunderstandings and gives everyone a clear reference point.
We help couples create planning documents and timelines that keep everyone informed and aligned.

🤝 Involve Family Thoughtfully
Sometimes drama comes from feeling left out. Find meaningful ways to include family without giving up control:
  • Ask for help with DIY projects
  • Invite them to share family traditions or recipes
  • Let them host a shower or rehearsal dinner
  • Include them in photo planning or ceremony readings

Inclusion doesn’t mean surrender—it means connection.

💬 Final Thought
Family drama is normal—but it doesn’t have to define your wedding. With clear communication, thoughtful boundaries, and a little support, you can plan a celebration that honors your love and keeps the peace.
At Sunny Days Events, we’ve helped couples navigate the emotional side of planning for over 15 years. We’re not just here for the logistics—we’re here for you.

Let us help you create a day that’s joyful, grounded, and drama-free.

Behind the Scenes: Commissioning Ceremony for the CG Icebreaker Storis

1/12/2026

When the U.S. Coast Guard commissioned the icebreaker Storis, it was a moment of pride and history for Southeast Alaska. At Sunny Days Events, we were honored to support the occasion by providing essential rentals that helped the ceremony come together—despite last-minute changes, wild weather, and logistical curveballs.
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how we contributed to this high-profile event.

🤝 Our Role: Rentals, Reliability, and Rapid Response
We weren’t the event coordinators—but we were the rental backbone. Our team worked closely with:
  • CBJ Docks & Harbors
  • The U.S. Coast Guard
  • The Navy League of the United States
As the date shifted multiple times in the week leading up to the ceremony, other vendors couldn’t accommodate the changes. We stepped in to fill those gaps—providing tables and chair solutions on short notice.

Our flexibility and local presence made it possible to pivot quickly and keep the event on track.

🎪 The Setup: Night Before, Rain or Shine
We installed the tents the evening before the ceremony, working around weather, terrain, and tight timelines. The stage was added later by another team, and we didn’t receive final layout details—like sidewall placement or chair configuration—until the morning of the event.

That meant adjusting everything on-site, in real time, with crews already arriving and sideways rain in full force.

🌧️ Weather, Wind & Last-Minute Layouts
Juneau delivered its signature sideways rain, and the original layout had to pivot fast:
  • The stage didn’t fit as expected, requiring a reconfiguration of the tent interior
  • Sidewalls were placed based on wind direction and visibility needs
  • Chair placement was finalized just hours before guests arrived

Our crew adapted quickly, securing everything and ensuring the space was functional, dignified, and dry.

🤝 Filling Gaps & Supporting the Team
As the event date shifted multiple times in the week leading up to the ceremony, other rental providers couldn’t accommodate the changes. We stepped in to fill those gaps—sourcing additional items and adjusting our crew’s availability multiple times to meet the evolving needs.

We weren’t the coordinators, but we were the steady hands behind the gear—and proud to support CBJ Docks & Harbors, the Coast Guard, and the Navy League.

💬 Final Thought
The commissioning of the Storis was a powerful moment for the Coast Guard and the Juneau community. At Sunny Days Events, we were proud to support it—not with coordination, but with reliable rentals, responsive service, and deep local experience.
Planning a formal or government event in Southeast Alaska?
Let us help you with the gear that makes it happen—rain or shine.

Rustic vs. Elegant: Finding Your Event Style

1/5/2026

Picture
When it comes to planning your event, one of the first big decisions is choosing a style that feels true to you. For many couples and clients in Southeast Alaska, that choice often comes down to two beloved aesthetics: rustic and elegant.
At Sunny Days Events, we’ve styled both ends of the spectrum—and everything in between. Whether you're drawn to woodsy charm or refined sparkle, here’s how to define your style and make it shine.

Picture
🌲 Rustic: Natural, Cozy, and Down-to-Earth
Rustic events embrace the beauty of imperfection. They’re warm, relaxed, and often inspired by nature—perfect for forest clearings, beachside ceremonies, and backyard gatherings.
Common elements:
  • Wood textures, greenery, and earthy tones
  • Mismatched decor and handmade touches
  • Bistro lights, white resin chairs, and simple table settings
  • Tent setups that feel open and organic

Why clients love it:
It feels personal, approachable, and deeply connected to the landscape—especially in Southeast Alaska, where nature is the ultimate backdrop.

Picture
💎 Elegant: Refined, Polished, and Timeless
Elegant events are all about sophistication and detail. They’re structured, graceful, and often feature a more formal tone—ideal for indoor venues, tented receptions, and black-tie affairs.
Common elements:
  • Crisp linens, coordinated dishware, and symmetrical layouts
  • Soft draping, curated lighting, and intentional color palettes
  • Premium chairs, clean table lines, and polished catering setups
  • A sense of flow and refinement from start to finish
Why clients love it:
It feels elevated, intentional, and photo-ready—perfect for couples who want a classic look with a modern twist.

🧭 Can You Mix the Two?
Absolutely. Some of our favorite events blend rustic textures with elegant styling:
  • A tented wedding with natural greenery and formal place settings
  • Bistro lights over banquet tables dressed in crisp linens
  • A forest ceremony followed by a candlelit reception

The key is balance—choosing which elements to highlight and where to soften the contrast.

💬 Final Thought
Your event style should reflect you. Whether you lean rustic, elegant, or somewhere in between, Sunny Days Events is here to help you define your vision, curate the right rentals, and bring it all together with heart and intention.
