My Why: The heart behind Sunny Days Events

I started Sunny Days Events in 2012 because I loved the planning, the logistics, and the joy of helping people celebrate life’s biggest moments. Weddings, fundraisers, elopements, retirements—each one is a puzzle, and I’ve always loved putting the pieces together.
But building a business in Juneau taught me something early on: our couples are incredibly DIY. They lean on friends and family to coordinate their weddings, often skipping professional help in favor of community support. It’s beautiful—and sometimes chaotic.


🧭 Why I Still Believe in Wedding Management
Even in a DIY town, I believe every wedding deserves some form of professional management. Not because couples can’t do it themselves—but because they shouldn’t have to.
Your friends and family should be celebrating with you, not running timelines or troubleshooting vendor delays. A good coordinator, armed with the right information (yes, we have a thorough checklist!), can pull off your vision without bothering you with the little details.

🪑 Why I Offer Full-Service Support
Over time, I’ve shifted focus. I don’t do as much planning or coordination as I originally imagined—but I’m still the only business in town that offers:

• Full-service rentals
• Event coordination
• Professional planning support

It’s a niche that fills a real need in Juneau. And while I’ve explored selling or partnering in the past, I’ve had to walk away from those opportunities. Why? Because they didn’t share my vision—or my commitment to this community.


👩‍👧‍👦 Why I’m Still Here
I’m also a single mother of two incredible kids—one a varsity dancer, the other thriving in robotics and e-sports. I work full-time as a computer programmer for the Alaska Legislature, and I run Sunny Days Events because it helps me afford their college tuition and support their dreams.
It’s a lot. But it’s worth it.
When they finish their education, I’ll likely revisit the idea of selling the business--to the right buyer, someone who understands what Sunny Days Events means to this town and to me.
